His Work

His work can be found in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art, Carrillo Gil Museum, and others. Rubén´s production is diverse and, throughout his trajectory, he explores different subjects. On one hand, he shows interest in the chaotic and tragic metropolis, emphasizing the contrasts that are seen on a regular basis in Mexico City, for instance wealth and poverty, life and death, light and darkness, on the other hand, he analyzes the beauty and tranquility of nature.
In 2015, Rubén Rosas evolved from expressionism to abstraction, surpassing his motif of pain´s magnitude to focus on the symmetry and grace of a butterfly´s flight. The shapes of the butterflies presented in Rubén´s work are produced with fragments of glass, which accurately depicts the elegance and speed of this animal´s charm. His process is strongly linked to the arbitrary, leaving behind the control he had over his paintings, as if he was enabling chance to actively participate in his work. These paintings do not talk about the political situation of the country, nor do they embody pain and grief, they invite the spectator to contemplate and admire the beauty of butterflies as if it was the perfect antidote to everyday life. The sense of identity in the work of Rubén Rosas is given from the fact that the artist recognizes himself through it, forming a reciprocal relationship with art.
